Quick Snaps and Cold Snaps

A quick snap taken through the kitchen window this morning.  Says it all really – daffodils and snow.

I was out walking today and the east wind cut pretty much to the core.  Who knows what the windchill was, but it certainly felt a good deal below freezing and not a day for an ungloved hand.  Typical late-March weather really!?

I watched a Chiff Chiff flitting about, low among some reeds.  It did seem slightly out of place, this little bird of the spring eking out an insectivore’s existence in the face of an icy wind and the persisting grip of winter.  But then those little Goldcrest (who, you may remember, have previously graced these pages) do this as a matter of course and this Chiff Chaff may well have been one of the increasing number that opt to winter on our shores.  All the same, I couldn’t help but feel a small sense of admiration for its hardy countenance.
